U.S. Senator Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), ranking Senate Republican on the Joint Economic Committee (JEC), released a new report and video examining the debt crisis in Greece and lessons for America to avoid a similar fate. The report includes research from JEC Republican staff and can be accessed here in PDF format: "REPORT — Greek to U.S.?" (http://1.usa.gov/mWyGgw).

"It is tempting for Americans to take comfort in the belief that the size and strength of the U.S. economy will protect us from the consequences now facing Greece, but no nation is exempt from the basic laws of mathematics and economics," said Senator DeMint. "A closer inspection of the Greek crisis suggests that the United States may not be far behind on the road to ruin and we ignore the lessons of Greece at our own peril."

  • @XxSniperRepivxX The unsustainable welfare system didn't help either. And why did those rich people not pay their taxes locally? Maybe because Greek tax rates were too high... ? Or your retirement age is extremely low...? Or one of a plethora of problems.

  • dude, get your facts straight!

  • dude it's not only that why greece have an economic colapse, the rich people or whatever you call them was stolling money from the country by not paying taxes and also our politicians have stole money aswell, everyone was transfering all that money to Switzerland and now greece is fucked up. (by the way germany owes Greece 38 trillion euros for the catastrophes and the deaths Germany did to Greece during the WW2 but they will never give what they owe us because greek govermed is corrupted.)

  • An excellent point that is lost when he introduces the divisive language. If Washington has been doing this for "decades", why only show Obama, Reid and Pelosi? This is a perfect example of a good idea being lost by questioning the motivations and patriotism of the other side.

Is our debt out of control? Yes. Are you going to convey that by insinuating that Democrats are corrupt? No.

It's time to choose. Do you want to solve the problem or do you want to bash liberals? You can't do both.

  • Very good synopsis!

  • I agree; Senator DeMint is a tireless fighter, making sure that wealth remains with the 1 percent.

  • Senator, you are a tireless fighter for the those of us clamoring for sanity to return to the Federal Government. Thank you.

  • Thank you Senator DeMint. Sad but true. There are SO MANY in America today that don't seem to understand the simple concept: "You can't keep spending more than you make."

  • Thank you Senator, I hope and pray that we can react in time. Dear sir who are you supporting for president and will a new president make a difference. What can we do to help now.

  • Both parties are against "We The People" therefore the people are doomed! Sorry folks it would require me to write an entire book to explain but unfortunately I'm working in the extremes in order to survive. So off to work I go. Good luck my fellow Americans!
