The fear of the LORD is the BEGINNING of knowledge is what it says. America still has plenty of bright students...and 99% of them are homeschooled by fundamentalist Christian parents. This is how democrats reward failure.....they promote you! Arne Duncan, who headed Chicago Public School system, which is one of the worst in the US is now Sec of Education. He did absolutely NOTHING in Chicago. I guess failure breeds failure is the new democratic motto.

Are you kidding? Duncan has been a main driver of the testing craze that is doing so much to ruin education in this country. You can't test ANY of what he's saying he's for; and schools and teachers now get chastized whenever they fail to focus on "accountability"

Duncan supposedly "fixed" the Chicago schools. Last year the average kid was absent 26 days and 300 school-age kids were shot in gang-related violence. Maybe teachers aren't to blame.

Local control hurts. We need local autonomy(independence). That is achieved by finding more opportunities instead of alienating the government who could be a provider of opportunity. USDOA is not allowed to interfere with local control. Local control is its own worst enemy. It resists government involvement instead of allowing the government to provide choices, advice or opportunities. Local and state bureaucracy wastes money through duplication.
