A smoke plume more than 50 miles long extends westward from the Harris fire and is visible from San Diego. I timed the shoot with an approaching jet plane. Taken late afternoon October 22, 2007 looking south.
Now this is what happens when you build a city right next to a whole lot of flammable bushland....make your houses out of flammable material and put trees around them, and now your neighborhood has become a potential fire bomb. Also, you get years of fresh fuel waiting to ignite and overwhelm the firefighters' capabilities.
God I miss San Diego.
All the excitement. Now, here in Harris TEXAS, nothing ever fucking happens and I live ridiculously close to an airport now!
