This version was in the second set of tunes performed by harpers at the "Harpers For Tara" demonstration outside the Dáil, the Irish Government buildings, on September 22nd 2008.

Here the tune is now performed by 30 harpers and this gives quite a fuller sound. However, this is still remarkable considering most of the harpers had never performed with each other and performed her with barely any rehearsal time. Some just turned up, uncovered their harps and stuck in.

  • How many harpists were there?

  • 30 harpers at this time, by the time they did this tune this second time.

  • Good, maybe just a hint slower would have done it...as far as I can remember, it was intended as a funeral march.

  • My thoughts when I was there filming, but it sounded so good, especially as it was performed without rehearsal, so I just though it was a wonderful different way to present the tune. My parter Claire Roche performed this tune a lot at weddings. She also said it was the first tune she was taught on harp.

  • How appropriate that this song is being played to prevent the destruction of the site where Brian Boru would have been made ardrigh. Thank you so much for the concert and for posting it.

  • Gives you an idea of what it would have been like in the great seat of tara many moons ago...amazing

  • Whether we're celebrating a battle, or honouring our dead, we always do it in such majestic style.

Thanks for the upload, lovely to see.

  • Fantastic! The fast pace gives a spirited sense of pride to this treasured melody, which can also be very sad, carrying the sense of melancholy and loss.

What is the Tara that you refer to? Does it have any relation whatsoever to the Roxy Music song?

Thanks and congratulations for filming this magical sequence, enhanced by the interesting faces of the players and the audience.
