The fifth of five short video and sound pieces, these pieces use unconventional ways of graphing various mathematical functions to make images that might hopefully be a bit more interesting than the usual ways of graphing them. In this, the last of the series, the Lorenz attractor is traced 10 points at a time, making shapes that sometimes remind me of seashells, hence the title. The music is produced by the same attractor, at the same time, mapped to a microtonal scale. The complete piece will be on display at SNO, (Sydney Non Objective) 175 Marrickville Road, Marrickville, NSW (Sydney) from 7 - 29 Nov, Friday-Sunday 12:00 - 5:00. At the opening, Saturday 7 November, at 4:30, I'll be giving a live music and sound poetry performance as well. The dedicatee, Ruark Lewis, is an artist friend who lives in Sydney, whose work making abstract angular diagrams based on tracing locations used by early Australian explorers gave me the impetus to make these pieces. Software, Algorithmic Arts ArtWonk, VSampler.
