Mario Testino is a world-reknown fashion photographer, and also a very talented curator, as I saw in this show.
Here he has assembled works by John Stezaker, Glenn Ligon, Anne Collier, Wolfgang Tillmans, Nicola Tyson, and Anselm Reyle, not in a typical gallery space setting, but rather in a handsomely designed drawing room. The effect gives focus towards not only what you see, but consideration of how you see it.
The opening itself was a great example of an elegant gathering in Chelsea. While wandering about, I overheard Testino making a comment about what some people (artists in particular) deride as "decorative art". I agree with him completely, in my opinion, there is nothing wrong with "decorative" art per se, it can be every bit as beautiful and meaningful as any fine art.
