  • Playing 'out of tune' is not suitable for shostakovich. it's shostakovich, jesus.

  • The last note should be an E

  • everyone is good to talk but for sure not everybody can play this concerto like this ;)

  • dudes!!! shut up and listen...

  • @volk410 What you did was to make a purported statement of fact -- publicly -- against a fine artist that you had no justification for and then tried to characterize this bald statement (that the passage was terribly out-of-tune) as your mere opinion, as if that somehow made your remark less offensive. It is hard enough to be an artist in this world of Biebers and Gagas without dilettantes who don't know jack trying to masquerade as experts and tearing down people who can really do something.

  • Wow. People these days are so hateful and mean. What did I do to deserve this? Stand up for myself for simply stating my opinion, notwithstanding the hundreds of positive comments I've left on other YouTube videos for other artists, including Pieter Wispelwey? Have a great life, steinfeld, and I'll do the same. I've had enough of your arrogance and condescension.

  • Once again, you seem not to realize that 1) you're the one who started the rant, and 2) if you had the talent, you would have practiced enough to be able to play the cadenza. Evidently you have neither the talent nor the dedication. You just have the arrogance to take pot shots at someone dedicated to advancing the art of cello playing. DON'T CRITICIZE A FINE ARTIST WITHOUT JUSTIFICATION. And tell me which notes are out of tune maybe you could post your performance that's perfectly in tune.

  • And so, who ARE you, Mister I've-played-with-major-orchestras? Surely I must have heard of you before.

  • . . . but if I gave myself enough time and energy to practice it, I probably could. I have studied Western music my entire life, have played piano since I was 3, and other instruments as well. I majored in music in college, but chose to pursue a different career path. I have also gone to more concerts than I have dollars in the bank. Is that what you wanted to hear? Now that you know a little more about me, perhaps you might apologize for having gone on such a rant to begin with.

  • Well, if you must know the truth, great one, I did listen to the whole thing after reading your first comment. And you're right: after the out-of-tune double stops, it is some damn fine playing. But how dare you jump down my throat when obviously I'm speaking my opinion? What am I supposed to do, preface every statement with, "Disclaimer: The following is simply my opinion"? And I HAVE played it too. No, I can't play it at the level where I'd be performing it with a major orchestra, . . .

  • @volk410 Hey, buddy. I'm not the one who had the temerity to criticize a fine artist unjustly. You didn't present your opinion as an opinion, but as a bald statement. Moreover, you didn't even bother to listen to the whole excerpt. The thing I don't think you realize, because you obviously haven't played this piece (otherwise, you would have posted your own brilliant performance, which I'm sure doesn't exist) is that this is a hard, hard piece and this is a live recording with no do-overs.

  • Yes, yes, of course, o great one, your opinion is right, and mine is wrong. How dare I question anything about cello playing, or music, when confronted by your greatness? Tell you what, great one. Why don't you post a video of yourself playing the cadenza? Not because I doubt you. . . I don't. And I'll post a video of myself filling prescriptions. And then we can compliment one another on each other's technique.
