Not too long ago I heard the full version of the song Major Tom for the first time. The ending really caught my attention because it sounded just like a section of the Heathcliff theme song. I played both and was amazed how similar they were. I looked into it and Major Tom came out in 1983 while Heathcliff the cartoon came out in 1980. Seems Peter Schilling may have been inspired by that show because those parts are so much a like down to being the same notes and in the same key. I made this video to show how similar they are and I really like both the Major Tom song and the Heathcliff song.
