You see. This is why when the earthquake striked Hatti I was kinda ticked off how all the people got together in the united states and raised that much money from the US alone. I was like, how come they cant get together to help the local guy living under the interstate bridge? Im not against helping hatti, but damn we gotta start helping our people too, especially the children. Comon United States lets get this done.

Because poverty exists *everywhere*, and people actually need to work. Many people in America live in poverty because they live on welfare and refuse to get jobs (because they just don't know how to take care of themselves).
Then there's the system. It's practically made to keep you down in poverty if you're on welfare - there's no transition from having most things paid for you by the government to being all by yourself financially (which happens the second you get a job).

That's a good point. There are many reasons why people live in poverty. It's a very complicated issue and not one that I think can be solved in a free capitalist society...
