Well when those 747 need to replaced. Do you think airlines will choose the outdated and older 747-8 airframe that has less passenger capacity and less passenger comforts and doign all of this while using more fuel per passenger. The choice is obvious. Airlines will choose A380. Once you have flown in A380, you will never want to fly in 747 again. The next wave of A380 will be more efficent. In the future we can look to many improvements in the A380 frame.
Boeing got it off the ground on the 18th. of December, when is this A350XWB going to be airborne? The prototype was a success for Boeing, now the pain of industrializing and manufacturing the 787 in multiple numbers begins. I read Boeing plans to pump out 7 a month at first, then hope to be up to 12 a month by 2013. Boeing's betting its' fortune on the Dreamliner, and the government didn't help pay for it.
The US Government has helped Boeing. What with military contracts and working with NASA. We'll see when the WTO makes their verdict. The A350XWB has only just entered production. The Boeing prototype was made and on the ground for over 2 years before first flight. That's bad. Very bad.
I think 747-800 is a cheap and boring replacement for the classic 747-400 series in my minds eye. Boeing did not want to invest in all new 747 replacement as it was seen as too risky a buisness venture. I applaud Airbus once again for taking the risk and pushing the envelope in terms of innovation and design technologies. I think Airbus have pushed aviation 20 years into the future whereas Boeing are still tinkering with a 1960s 747 design.
Fachy1981.......Airbus pushed aviation 20years into the future is an overstatement. The Airbus A380 is all government invested money. Boeing invested its' own money for research and development for the 747, but it paid off. They did the same with the new 787 Dreamliner, and that too will pay off as well bud.
