@Jackinart Hi again. I'm not so sure know of who is plaing the bass guitar. To me it seems there is a mixture in the film posted at one point being Jonathan Noyce and at the other, someone else. Still what really maters is that JT have always chosen the best musician for the best band, so who cares really? Let's stick to the essencial: their music and loyal fans like us... Cheers mate!

@manprogrock No sir, and I have proof this time. You see, I've just recently got me a copy of the 25th Anniversary Box from 1993, and this recording of "Passion Jig" here is the exact live recording from the "Potpurri" CD of this set, where the musicians are Ian Anderson, Martin Barre, Dave Pegg, Dave Mattacks and Andy Giddings as recorded in Chicago 1992. It's Dave alright.

@Jackinart sorry buddy but it is Jonathan Noyce on bass indeed

Ok, then all is well. :-)

Well you may be right about this, and I don't doubt you at all. But the one recording with Noyce sounds very similar to me, even down to the bass. Because its the same exact arrangement so its hard to tell, but you have some good points and your probably right. No, your not being a pain at all I love to talk about this stuff. Plus it sparks more discussion on my video! haha!

Excuse me if I'm being a pain in the ass but there's one more thing how to tell that this recording was made before the Noyce-era: Ian's flute playing here is not as smooth as it was since Divinities and Roots to Branches, it's much more similar to his playing on Catfish Rising, with more breath noise and not that exact.

Listen to the bass playing on Catfish Rising, you'll hear the similarities.

Sure, because Noyce was in the band at that time, but I can tell the difference between Noyce and Pegg. And since this doesn't seem to be a life performance I would strongly suggest to listen closely to the bass playing, it IS definitely Dave Pegg.
Rather an interesting mix of instruments ! Was that a tuba I hear at the beginning ?
No, on a 2nd play it's not, but I think they've got a bass guitar to sound damned near one. Even JJ Burnel would be proud of that !

Yes, the bass part in the beginning is Jonathan Noyce, good bassist! At least I think its him on this recording! I am quite sure of it actually. I actually briefly had a correspondence with him on Myspace! Nice guy, sadly he isn't in the band anymore.

The whole sound is more likely located in the early 1990s, and I'm almost certain that it's not Jonathan Noyce on bass here, it really sounds a lot more like Dave Pegg. It really does, Jonathan is much steadier in his playing and less jumpy.

Well I just figured it was Noyce, because I have a Tull bootleg of them live at the house of blues that sounds almost identical to this one, and its from about 99 I believe. Also there is a clip of this same piece on Youtube and it sounds very much like this one, and Noyce is on bass in the clip.
