Tekken 6 RANT

UPDATE MARCH 16 2011-I have been playing Tekken 6 for over a year now, and it's not a bad installment at all. I may have overcriticized Bob and the rest of the new characters, because their GAMEPLAY is actually pretty good. BUT I STILL FEEL that these characters leave more to be desired in originality. PS I think Lars and the robot chick (forgetting her name) are decent additions.

I know you're very right, other races (especially the darker skinned you are) are seen as "less marketable" in Japanese culture. I think it's because they've been so heavily influenced by Western standards of beauty.

Taka Arashi dissapeared from Virtua Fighter after VF3, maybe because he was a ripp-off of Tekken Ganryu. All started from Street Fighter Honda. How original can you be when creating a sumo character? They fight in a "uniform", act ritually. Bob is a copy of many fat guys that had crazy, silly moves and unjustified speed.

Yea Paul's stock, he was the typical Ken/Guile/Terry Bogard character. I think guys like him are initially made to attract white/Western/American audiences though, so all them blonde, blue eyed white kids can be "Oh yea this guy looks like me, so i'll try this game!".

It's true that he was based on Tyson, but that's understandable cuz Tyson was HUGE in the 80s and even into the early 90s. He was the most famous boxer in that era. It's no different when they made Fei Long who is obviously a Bruce Lee homage. And Street Fighter will always be the prime fighting game. Stereotypes are common, they weren't being racist.
