It is difficult to watch such footage intelligently. In the course of 96 years, culture has changed so much that the drivers' attitudes to sport, competition and danger are beyond the modern mind. Drivers who apologize for being mortally injured in a race? Commentators who observe - but otherwise do not comment on - the deaths of drivers? They weren't fools and they weren't disrespectful. I consider them brave, but I have no idea if they did.

At 2:53 they show what appears to be the #8 car, however, the 8 car finished the race that year. It's possible it was the #18, which was driven by Arthur Thurman, who was killed in the race. Gaston Chevrolet would be dead before he could defend his 1920 crown.
