Manchán sees if people on the street know the Irish words for simple things. He goes out busking, using the filthiest, most debauched lyrics he can think of to see if anyone will understand . . .
(For a translation of the lyrics see http://irishmedia.blogspot.com/2006/11/filthiest-irish-song-in-world.html BE WARNED they are offensive.)
To be aired Spring 2007

  • people blame the education system for the lack of gaelic spoken .but the problem is most people arent motivated to learn gaelic. if you want to learn any language you have to be motivated to learn i left school at 18 with only a few words. despite many of the best teachers i had being gaelic teachers. in the end i was lazy i am now learning gaelic its a very tricky language but i am getting help off a freind who is fluent which helps

IF WE LOSE OUR LANGUAGE WE HAVE LOST OUR SOULS

  • Logan- is this a translation of the video or just smoething crossing your mind at the time? ;)

  • @DingChavez959 i was on about irish most of us irish cant speak our own tongue unlike most other countrys we are speaking a foreign language

  • @Irishfianna

I know English pretty well actually.

  • @JedwardSurzy4 It's a part of your cultural identity. I am Irish american beginning to learn it. It is one of the few modern big cultural differences that seperates Ireland from UK or US. Be proud to speak it and speak it often.

  • i hate irish!!!!!!!!!!!

i also know a lot of it cos im from ireland!!!!!! (i am not brill but good)

  • @bouse23

Its a sad thought but perhaps if there was some incentive to learn this "useless" language more people would take it up.

As for mé féin, I intend to continue learning Irish to the best of my ability as I continue on after secondary school. If that means visiting the gaeltacht for a year I'm considering it strongly. The same stands for French.

It's a sad day when the only Irish on our Ireland is the consitution.

  • @bouse23

    I'd disagree,

I am currently studying Irish for the leaving cert at ordinary level. I feel that if I had of done it at Higher (which I didn't as I wanted to focus on maths, I want to do science at 3rd level) that I would be leaving school with a much higher standard of Irish.

I know more french after 6 years then I do Irish after 14 years of it? It's down to two things.

    Oursleves and the education system.

  • its sad most of use dont no our own langauge
