Maybe I'm naive, but when the hell did the US government become the head of the internet? Who are they to decide what belongs and what doesn't belong on the net?

I think that they don't so much define these things as Piracy, so much as the way the law is worded that these things wind up getting classified as piracy. The law itself doesn't define piracy very well. Not defending it, just pointing it out.

Trying things for free is the only way people find out if they like anything. You play a game, watch a movie, or listen to an album at a friends house and like it, you buy it.

Everyone used to copy cassette tapes and record movies off HBO, and it didn't hurt those industries one bit. People rent games and buy preowned, yet the gaming industry still rakes in billions. This is just a bunch of greedy assholes wanting more money (cough, Metallica, cough)
