Gary Snyder (born May 8, 1930) is an American poet (often associated with the Beat Generation and the San Francisco Renaissance), essayist, lecturer, and environmental activist (frequently described as the "poet laureate of Deep Ecology"[2] ). Snyder is a winner of a Pulitzer Prize for Poetry. His work, in his various roles, reflects an immersion in both Buddhist spirituality and nature. Snyder has also translated literature into English from ancient Chinese and modern Japanese. For many years, Snyder served as a faculty member at the University of California, Davis, as well as on the California Arts Council.

  • @m8roth You are probably right ..... I guess at the time it was written most American women were in the homestead bakin apple pie.

Can't remember why we chose this actress to read it - but she does do it proud.

    best wishes.

I have some more Gary Snyder poems and I will try to add them soon.

  • That was read wonderfully. It's a man's voice that should be behind this poem...but them I'm wrong, aren't I? You read it so perfectly.
