In the summer of 2009 I attended an AAC training class given by Safecrete in Georgia. As far as I recall they recommended this kind of notched trowel. Just two moves are required to spread the thin bed mortar (horizontally and then vertically on the neighboring AAC block). It's quick and efficient. I know of homes being erected in a couple of weeks by a team of two or three, members of the same family.
