Finnish concert organist Kalevi Kiviniemi plays his arrangement of "Konzert-etüde no.3 Des" by Franz Liszt. Organ is very special in design, made by Kangasala Organ Builders in 1960 and renovated by Organ Builder Veikko Virtanen. Organ is located at Lakeuden Risti Church ('Cross of the Plain') in Seinäjoki, Finland. This was recorded and videotaped live during the recording of Kiviniemi's CD/multichannel SACD "Lakeuden Ristin urut" ("The Organ of Lakeuden Risti Church"), MKSACD-49/FUGA-9285, www.fuga.fi. This is the opening track of the disc, and it is a direct take.

Lakeuden Risti church is, even to its smallest details, a work of world famous Finnish architect and professor Alvar Aalto. The organ front and placement is closely integrated with the architecture of the church and is also designed by Aalto. Church is part of the unique Seinäjoki town centre, 'Aalto Centre', the most important work of Alvar Aalto. Other buildings are town hall, library, parish centre, central government office building and theatre. If you are more interested, please visit

As in all videos here, audio is taken from original high definition multi channel recording, not from video camera's own microphone or from video camera's audio system. The better your computer's audio system is, the better the sound - of course within the limitations of YouTube audio. If you have enough bandwidth and processor power, please enjoy also the HQ-version, video and audio is better in HQ. Video, audio, editing and description by Mika Koivusalo

  • I think this is one of the best arrangements of one of the finest pieces of music that exists. I wonder if he has published it?

Nevertheless, great to see Kalevi performing this masterpiece!

  • Hello,

    This arrangement is not published.

    Greetings,

  • Beautiful! I start every day listening to this music. It' so powerful.

  • The sound of this great instrument is beautifully clear in this magnificent recording. The performance is simply splendid, echoing out into the strikingly modern interior of this magnificent church, with warm tonalities of golden wood cast against the pristine purity of white. The arrangement is artistically inspired, building to glorious moments of power, then allowing the inner voices to speak with diaphanous grace in luminous waves of subdued character. The camera work is exceptional

  • Dear Mika

Every bit as thrilling as I expected it to be.

I'd urge anyone interested in organ recordings to buy this disc. Simply one of the finest I've heard.
