LOL, me too, but then I thought, hmmm, you don't fuck around with 24 carat gold without knowing what you're doing first!

    Love the finished piece btw.

  • You saved me from so much frustration and disappointment by posting these videos! I was planning to go about my first gold leaf application later today and was just going to "wing it." It's clear now where that would have gotten me. Thank you!

  • Incompetence of European proportions but hilarious. I've watched this video many times and always come back when I need cheering up.

  • I've seen old school hot rod gurus do that crap with a cigaret and their fingers and come out perfect, try puttin a machine turn to it and see how many sheets u go thru b4 u get the setting time right... I wouldn't dare attempt on my stuff yet... but good vid and great piece (that's a crapload of black) and keep it up!

  • Honestly man, this should be under "humor", not education. I watched out of fascination to how unable you could handle the leaf. There are plenty of videos explaining how to easily do this application. Again, in the nude would have made this video much more...educational. You are an artist, right?:)

  • i think rubbing the brush on the hand would be to create a chage that the leaf would stick to maybe not oil on the hand dont know though nice video:)

  • hey, anyone knows how long an oil painting needs to dry before applying the Japanese gold size followed by the gold leaf?

I have a painting in desperate need to go to its patron but its only been drying for one month..

    thanks!

  • Well done in filming and gilding at the same time - not for the faint hearted! If you brush the gilding tip against your hair for a few seconds you should get good results holding the gold on the brush whilkst you position it, the littlre bit of grease on your hair / scalp is perfect!

  • To pick the gold leaf up, a handy tip is to rub a tiny bit of vaseline onto the back of your hand ,then rub it onto a piece of cotten wool, touch it down onto the leaf and lift up.Blow it gently to stop it creasing up.

  • pretty educational actually

i can now guild my nuttsack

    thank you very much

  • absolutely stunning! really really beautiful

  • easy way of cutting a gold leaf is using a razor or an exacto knife
