British teams plans world's fastest car - 23 Oct 08

A British team that claimed the world land speed record by driving through the sound barrier is planning to go even faster.

This time they want to do it with a car that that could reach 1,600kph. At that speed the vehicle - known as 'The Bloodhound' - is expected to travel faster than a bullet fired from a handgun.

a rocket on a car sounds like a really, really bad idea. a car thats faster than a speeding bullet makes it sound cool, but in reality who's ever driving it has to withstand the incredible g's and be able to hit the brakes before they hit the surrounding mountains.

Machines with wings on them already exist .... there called planes, easy things to control at high speed (compared to this). The bloodhound will be the first vehicle to ever go 1000mph on land and you say "who cares,this is rediculous". Mabe you just dont realise how much of a big milestone that is for engineering.... or mabe you just wish it was made in your country. Sour grapes?

hard to imagine something going faster than sound itself - though i heard there was some aircraft that made it to like 7600 km/h

a car going more than 1000 mph might catch on fire despite the cold =o
