The Malta Prime Minister addressing the Maltese traditional socio-cultural passion of wild finch-capturing by the use of nets, for the purpose of keeping the caught finches alive in captivity for their eventual use as live-decoys, call-birds, for their song and for some captive-breeding. This address was done in the Maltese Parliament on 9th November 2009, in which year for the first time since time immemorial finch-capturing was not permitted. This abolishion, as an indirect consequence of Malta's EU Membership, follows hot in the heels of another traditional socio-cultural passion that was also not permitted since 2008, that of spring-hunting.
