C'est à l'âge de 12 ans, lorsqu'elle voit La Traviata filmée par Franco Zeffirelli, que la petite Diana décide de devenir cantatrice. Peutêtre a-t-elle alors rêvé de chanter un jour avec Placido Domingo devant des millions de spectateurs? Un rêve devenu réalité en 2006 à l'occasion de la cérémonie d'ouverture de la Coupe du monde de football : Diana Damrau et son idole interprétaient ensemble le «Brindisi» de l'opéra de Verdi... Sur scène et en coulisses, mais aussi dans sa vie de famille à Genève, la réalisatrice a suivi pendant neuf mois celle que les journaux allemands appellent «la meilleure soprano du moment», que ses immenses qualités vocales ont projetée sur les grandes scènes du monde
