[Be sure to view this one full-screen!] When I got home from a recent road trip to San Francisco, I realized that all the images I shot from the car and while walking around the city made a great little narrative about our trip. So, I strung each of the 1437 images (18 gigabytes of raw files) together to make this video. Since I had plenty of memory cards with me, I didn't have to delete a single image.
Kate and I took a little road trip to San Francisco over the New Years holiday. We drove up from LA on a Wednesday, had all day Thursday to take in the sights (both in the city and in the Marin Headlands), met some friends, then drove back home on Friday.
This was totally coincidental and unplanned. I shot a ton of images on the trip and didn't even look at what I had until I got back.
I'm in there only once, in an accidental sequence of shots taken by our bartender (she was sweet, but kept nailing the shutter button for no good reason, making it a rather happy accident). You can see plenty of Kate, the drive up the 101 Freeway, the view from our hotel room, Union Square's ice rink, the Golden Gate bridge, Fisherman's Wharf, the Irish Bank Bar, the trip back on the 5 Freeway and a several other places in between.
All frames were shot on my Nikon D700, using the Nikkor 35mm f/2, 50mm f/1.4 and 70-300mm VR lenses.
The music is "Ragged Wood" by Fleet Foxes. If you like it, checkout their stuff at myspace.com/fleetfoxes. I bought their last CD and can't stop listening to it.
This might be the best road-trip video I've ever seen on youtube. You captured the magic draw of San Francisco that I used to feel when I'd visit in my youth .. and still do when I let things slow down enough to appreciate it all. Thanks
