  • oops, I was trying to edit my reply and deleted a comment by mistake from "natfunk71 " sorry.

  • If this video is supposed to show how much Mel added to GFR, it missed the point. This is a great GFR song, but this one minute does him no justice at all. Any GFR fan knows that. Mel is a killer bass player that played FAT and TASTEFULLY. He was absolutely the least mentioned of the band, but his sound and playing was a huge part of the success of this band. Tho Mark and Don did the singing and captured the spotlight, the man holding the bottom was Mel.

  • I agree theres not much from him actually in the clip. Its one of my favs bass songs but I pulled the camera out at the worng time and got more lead guitar than the bass part I was looking for. If you have the whole song (Inside Looking Out) its 5:35 and 6:45 into when he lets loose a little.

  • Im sorry but these guys got lots of FUNK in em. Ive seen them 5 times have 2 of their drum sticks, and absolutely loved every show. They play with alot of energy and always connect with the crowd.

  • If I remember correctly, this video is about MEL. Quite simply......the best!

    ROCK ON, BROTHER MEL!

  • THANK YOU!

  • oh man, it cut off! I was hoping to hear the whole tune, but heard part of it anyway, so that's Ok. :-) When was this concert anyway?

  • Id be a little upset too if Im looking for some grandfunk bass and come across this tittle to find out the bass is just idling in the backround, but just look at Mel how cute with his hat and marlboro man stance :) my reason for uploading is so I can remember that night and that song especially, if only I would have recorded a clip 3 mins later. Im sure ill come see them again, and ill get you guys a better example of Mel with his lightning rod.

  • xcrate you make no sense Bruce is a kick ass guitar player but nowhere close to Mark in this solo. You are appreciated for this video though but just where are you going with it and your right you did focus on Bruce Mel is the thunder on this song.

  • Not the same.

  • Mel is a bass GIANT... up there with Jack Bruce and John Entwhistle, Felix Papalardi and Geezer Butler.

  • Without telling the world who I am and who I performed with in the early 90's (A HUGE ARTIST) During interviews I would offen give praise to Mel as one of my biggest influences as who I got alot of my bass chops from...Thanks Mel and by the way we would offen do Railroad songs for sound checks...

  • What the fuck? The part where the bass plays one note is the best example you got?

  • No West Amps ..No Thunder Bass.

  • you know what, Mel is great at what he does, what he did, and no one can take away from that.
