This is a fun one to do with children, they may need help with the cutting of the toothpicks.
Use the same technique on a Styrofoam wreath!

The gumdrops are really hard to count once they are on the tree, lol!
I counted approximately 130 give or take (at least a couple of pounds worth).

If you do varnish your tree to re-use, make sure to keep it away from small kids and pets that may be tempted to nibble on it.

Once the gumdrops are dry and sealed they should not get moldy unless they are in a really humid or damp location for long periods of time. Mine will be stored in the attic, a very dry and pest free area.

This idea appears in a number of websites on the internet.

  • if I wanted to make them shinny and edible can I use powdered sugar mixed with water and drizzle it on?

  • @brian09able I would dampen the gumdrops with water a bit and sprinkle on some coarse white sugar, that may add a bit of sparkle to them.

  • Very festive. I didn't know that it was OK to varnish this kind of candy that has a sugar coating to save for a few years, learned something new. Just realized that part 2 of the log cabin didn't appear in my queue, going to watch it now.

  • @ArgentineShamrock No idea if it is "okay" or not, but I found the idea on a website. I think that if you did nothing that the candy would probably be okay, it would just dry up I think

  • @TheRealovescupcakes I carefully explain this in the video, please listen again.

  • @apocalyptica003 We have ants but they tend to stay outside. I know that certain tropical places have issues with ants getting into the house.

We also have winter so most of the year we don't have bugs at all.
