A short runthrough on how to use the new plugin from Canon for Apples Final Cut Pro to import footage from the Canon 5D Mark II and 7D by way of the log and transfer function. This plugin still is not a 'native' approach, in that it still converts your footage to ProRes 422 but it is much faster and easier to use than other methods.

  • can I do this without a card reader? plug the camera directly into the computer?

  • @rockslideproductions Not sure to be honest, I NEVR plug my camera in to read the card, so slow, a card reader preferably Firewire 800 is SO MUCH FASTER, especially when you are pulling off multiple 16 gig cards after a long day shooting :)

  • I have got this flipping message pops up when I am trying to put EOS Card in Log and Transfer.

EOS_DIGITAL has invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches the supported media.

    can any1 help please?

  • @ninjatune757 This usually happens when you have copied the cards contents off ontp your hard drive but not kept the complete structure, either log and transfer off the card or use something like ShotPut Pro to dump your cards to hardisk perfectly

  • What kind of computer do you have? I have the MacBook aluminum (2.4Ghz) and I'm hoping to get either a DSLR sometime soon or a new MacBook Pro. Is your computer able to handle the footage from the DSLR in Final Cut or do you wish you had a faster computer?

  • @ShakeAndBakeGuy It will work on that, I did all the FIFA World Cup on that MacBook, but longer term you really want a desktop with a NVIDIA with CUDA acceleration, only a coupe of hundred but you get soooo much more RT
