Destroyers generally traveled in pairs on Operation Sea Dragon. We, USS Samuel N. Moore (DD-747), teamed up with Collett one afternoon in 1967. We dogged a North Vietnamese battery that day. The enemy stopped firing, but it might have been because he ran out of ammunition, which was a common event during the war.

A slice of time with photos as well. Few men can count the excitment and fatiuge of sea dragon ops. we were on our feet 20hrs a day slept at GQ station to get 5 extra mins of shut-eye, refule all night and rearm (UN-Rep)having to steam out to the supply ships, 3differnt ships, hi-line till 1am then start our run-in to be back on station at dawn and do it all over again, A USS Mullinex hang fire killed all but one in mount 54 + handling rooms

Great stuff, We were there july and one day in aug 67,they sat still and waited thru 2 runs of shoot-n-scoot. 1st us then our shotgun, when on the third run we went for a broadside so we could shoot 52 and 54. "well" suddnly every pop gun owned in vietnam was pointed at us and firing. I'm to short for this Shit. Im in the after-fire room phone talker roaming the ckts, phone talker in mount 54 is up-set with the proximity of the rounds comming in'', I see you digg it, Haze grey and underway
