Turkey does not have a European identity. In what way does one measure "European identity"? Is it history, philosophy, religion, culture or geography? Turkey does not qualify from any of these perspectives. A further obstacle is the fact that Turkey continues to illegally occupy another EU state, it flies military war planes over the territory of another EU state frequently, it has an appalling human rights record, etc.
