Casey and Michael's Greek-Italian Wedding by StoryMotion Studios (www.storymotion.com)

Music: "If We Were" by Chad Van Herk

I think that practically every person I ever spoke to have, at one point, seen the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Arthur and I actually saw it two weeks after our own, when it first came out at the movie theaters. At the time we thought it was the most hilarious thing ever! Even though we are not Greek, but weddings for those who came to US from the former Soviet Union are eerily-similar down to extensive guest list of people you barely know, Russian restaurants that have almost-mandatory "Palace" in its name, and lots of great food and dancing.

Casey and Michael's wedding didn't have over-the-top invitations and bridesmaids' dresses, or puffy bridal gown you might have seen in the movie, but it certainly had all the fun of Greek dancing to an amazing band and tongue-and-cheek Maid-Of-Honor toast about growing up Greek you can imagine. As surprising as it may sound, with remarkable variety of weddings we photographed in our careers, this year we photographed our first two Greek weddings (I promise to talk more about the other one soon). We have documented Greek Orthodox ceremonies before, but Casey and Michael's was the first one with true Greek reception.

Even thought Casey and Michael were married in a Greek ceremony and had Greek band at their wedding, it's important to mention, though, that the celebration also recognized Michael's Italian background. Michael's priest offered a blessing at the end of the wedding ceremony and the band gave beautiful rendition of Tarantella and other Italian songs. Not to be forgotten, Italian deserts, along with Greek, concluded amazing feast.

The gray skies and drizzle couldn't put a damper on the joy felt by the family and friends, who shared on the celebration of this couple that knew each other since childhood. There aren't too many people who can say that they grew up right next to person they married. Casey and Michael can say just that, literally. When we first met the couple they said that they grew up on the same street, but when we arrived at Casey's home on the day of the wedding we realized that Arthur didn't even need to move the car to photograph Michael getting ready. Their parents' houses are standing right next to each other. Avid athletes, both Casey and Michael also share their love for medicine and even worked together as EMTs.
