I'm a big fan of James Herriot. and have all DVD's from the TV programmes, and have both films on VHS and DVD.

I want this film! and yes it is the one where he has to eat the fatty bacon just to please the farmer, but he smothers it in piccalilli to hide the taste.
ok, thanx anyway. I've found a good fan site of the series and have posted some questions on the forum, so hope to find some answers there. Who'd have thought the series was still that popular!!

That's a real shame for you, i'll keep looking, but if you're a fan of the film, maybe you can clear something up for me. Is this the one where james has to eat the fatty bacon with picalli on?

I can't remember off-hand, sorry. I think so. I have a vague memory of John Alderton doing that scene - possibly after the goat that swallowed the underpants? The only scene I can remember strongly like that is the one where Siegfried has to judge the Christmas cake one of the farmer's wives has made - and that's in the final episode of series 1 of the TV series.

It's not available on DVD in either the US or the UK, sadly. I bought a video of it off Ebay a couple of months ago (for 20 UKP) but the picture quality was almost unwatchable. So, I asked for my money back, and posted this video to Youtube just to show how bad the quality was. I'm sure it'll come out officially on DVD eventually - I've always thought Alderton was a very fine JH.
(Oh, and I got my money back from a very fair seller, so all's well that ends well).
