The day had started out pretty nice with my friend and I hitting the local market in Huaraz for some greasy fried egg sandwiches and some weak coffee. The friendly beggar girl visited our table while we were choking down our fried egg sandwiches and Dave bought her a fried egg sandwich. Shoving a fried egg sandwich into my mouth, I watched the grease drip onto a small plate.

Being in a good mood this morning, I had awakened Dave up early in the morning and was screaming in his ear about an article that he wrote that got me fired up. So while waiting for Dave to shower, I was on the roof shooting a movie about the real Huaraz, Peru.

After breakfast I told Dave that I would catch up with him later, since I wanted to put together a movie about Huaraz.

So I took off and started to film whatever looked interesting. Huaraz is a tough city to film, if you are trying to make a good first impression. Keep in mind that the city was destroyed in the 1970 earthquake. Some of the parks are beautiful and the surrounding mountains are beautiful, but overall Huaraz is just a concrete jungle.

You will notice a little old indigenous lady begging toward the middle and end of this movie. Normally I will not invade people's privacy, but she caught my attention. I offered her 1 Sol for some footage (4 seconds) and she agreed. Unfortunately the Peruvians walking by did not see me paying her and thought I was being rude. People looked at me in discuss and one lady stopped and had some nasty comments for me. After getting my material, I quickly jumped up and explained that the little old lady had agreed to let me film her.

Slowly wandering back to my hotel I had a sense of guilt for exploiting her, but it was beneficial for both of us. She got something and so did I.

Toward the end of the day I felt like a cold was coming on. Dave was complaining earlier in the day about not feeling well. Around 6:00 pm I went and drank a half-liter of orange juice. Then went to my favorite chicken barbeque street vendor and ate 3 chicken skewers and 2 beef heart skewers. After that I choked down an ice cream cone and 2 sweet-fried dough's rolled in sugar.

Stopping along the way back to my hostel at a local tienda, I purchased 2 bags of chips and some orange soda.

Jumping in the hot shower on my return to my hostel, I just stood under the shower for some time and then finally drying off, I jumped in bed and munched on my junk food.

Popped a 400 mg Ibuprophen, brushed my teeth and crashed at about 7:30 pm.

It was one of those nights when feelin sick felt good.

The next day I sat on a bench in my hostel overlooking another hostel. I watched a guy in a clean white shirt puking into a large concrete sink. I felt better today.
