this is our homemade Xilophone
Neon is performing some tunes from bad apple thouhou song.
VST used : B4

the main system is based on a 18f2455 programmed in MPLAB C18.
37 piezoelectric sensor pads signals are multiplexed to the PIC's ADC module.
every pad is dinamic-sensitive.
the main difficulty was avoiding mechanical crosstalk among each sensor pads (they're really sensitive!) we did it writing special software routines.
3 potentiometer are for setting the sensibility, sound compression, and noteoff decay.
the whole structure is wooden hand-crafted.
it only needs a cool front panel to hide the electronics...

  • hello, how are you?, continued trying to make a midi xylophone, but I have some problemas.ahora I have mounted only one octave, but I would like to make the 4-octave instrument. mainly programming problems are. I used an Arduino board with a Shield to be 48 Mux input analogicas.el first problem arises with the sensitivity and the messages after midi. Well the thing is that I have no idea about programming. if you want and I can send you the code that I have done and you look it.

    thanks

  • @verakounda

actually i don't use the arduino board.

I don't know if prebuilt functions for analog reading are optimized enough for fast input readings, the MUX must be switched really really fast too!

remember to put some schottky diodes on the inputs because of the piezo high voltages!!

an oscilloscope is a really important friend in this kind of projects :D

anyway I may have a look to the code as well ;)

  • very good.i m trying to make one,can you help me?do you speak spanish?

  • @verakounda hi! actually i don't speak spanish, but if you need some help feel free to ask in PM ;)
