Rund 50 US-Kriegsveteranen, davon manche in Uniform und mit Tränen in den Augen, zogen am Sonntag an der Spitze einer Anti-Nato-Demonstration mit über 15.000 Teilnehmern zu dem McCormick-Kongresszentrum in Chicago.
An einem Metallzaun warfen sie ihre Medaillen weg. „Es tut mir leid", rief Aaron Hughues aus Illinois in ein Mikrofon. Zach LaPorte aus Wisconsin fügte hinzu: „Ich verdiene diese Medaillen nicht. Sie bedeuten Heldentum."
