David Holt performs "Pretty Polly" a song he learned from Dellie Norton from Sodom, North Carolina. This is one of the oldest English ballads.

  • This is great!

  • lol my name is polly ^^

  • My father both finger picked and claw-hammered. His claw hammer style was different, as he pulled up over the top string with his thumb instead of striking downward. It was beautiful to watch and wonderful to listen to. This version is good for the banjo picking, that's for sure. As a singer, he lacks that haunting quality that mountain folks seem to have built in.

  • I know different lyrics to this song but this is a great version. His music is incredible.

  • This song is rather gruesome.

  • its in sawmill tuning gdgcd

  • It might be a half step down like doc boggs played it

  • I first saw David on the TNN show Fire on the Mountain. Wish someone had episodes.

  • Yeah im pretty certain this is in g modal tuning, i'm learning to play this myself and thats the tuning the book gives me.

  • probably "modal", gDGCD
