'Maureen' I have said it before I love lullabies and this one has a special place in my heart.

MAUREEN
Irish Cradle Song

O my love, she is soft as the down on the breast of the swan,
And sweeter by far than the honey that comes from the fee.
And happier too than the singing of birds in the dawn;
My own one, my treasure, my little Maureen Machree.

She is bright as the stars that shine in the blue of the sky,
And lovely and pure as the white of the feathery snow
And it's I would forever be happy beside her to lie;
And may God that's in heaven forgive me for loving her so.

  • Wow! I had goosebumps listening to this song... I was born in South Africa, into a family with strong Irish roots on my father's side.. ( The family having fled Ireland as a result of the famine...) That morning, my mother could'nt decide on a name for me...; however, when she heard this song over the radio... I received my name.. Sadly, she died only two years later with the birth of my brother... Thank you for this beautiful song... Regards, Maureen O'Connell

  • @Dezmau This is one of my favourite lullabies. I was not christened Maureen but have always been called Maureen............all I do know is that my godmother loved the name. Don't know why I was not christened Maureen! Thanks for your lovely comment. Maureen Hegarty

  • Love the singing of Maureen Hegarty. Trying to find where I can buy her CDs. So far, I had no luck. Does anyone know where her CDs are for sale? I tried Amazon.

  • It is so kind of you to share your wonderful music here. I'm definitely going to find the score and learn to sing this song at the piano. I only wish I had a voice half as lovely as yours. Many thanks.
