  • @MsBixy That was probably David Williams, though for awhile he was in India he had David Swenson teaching classes. So it could have been either of them!

  • I took an Ashtanga class on Maui in the 70s, it was taught in Lahaina on Front St in a covered circular, high ceiling tent-like affair that had no walls, with trees around it, and I think it was taught by David Swenson. The instructor's name was David- and he surfed a little then too. Is this the same David?

  • practice, practice, practice :)

  • I would have liked to have seen this whole seminar ;_;

  • humor was used to overcome the language barrier.

  • I know he can do them, that's not the point. How does watching someone incredibly lithe, supple and flexible and strong do the postures help me when I'm none of those things?

  • No, I think you're reading too much into it. Think about it. How should he deal with this situation? By being austere and continuing to ask the girl to do it right?

    The point is that in many of these situations you are trying to understand a physical dynamic that you haven't grasped already. You need to be able to do it yourself, and see someone who isn't David doing it themselves. I've been in the same position in workshops of his - it wasn't ridicule, just a little light humor. Chill out!

  • totally wrong, search for david svenson 1st series dvd.

  • There are many different ways to teach. Humor certainly goes a long way, and this video doesn't really show a student being ridiculed. If we have to find something in the video, maybe it'd be better to see it as a lesson in both the teacher and the student practicing without ego.

  • I noticed that too, but I don't think he had bad intentions.
