Xe (pronounced /ˈzi/, formerly Blackwater Worldwide & Blackwater USA), is a private military company founded in 1997 by Erik Prince [2] and Al Clark. In October 2007, Blackwater USA renamed itself Blackwater Worldwide, and was colloquially referred to simply as "Blackwater".

Based in the American state of North Carolina, Xe operates a tactical training facility ( [show location on an interactive map] 36°27′19″N 76°12′09″W / 36.455359°N 76.202545°W / 36.455359; -76.202545) which the company claims is the world's largest, and at which the company trains more than 40,000 people a year, mostly from U.S. or foreign military and police services. The training consists of military offensive and defensive operations, as well as smaller scale personal security.

Xe Worldwide is currently the largest of the U.S. State Department's three private security contractors. Of the 987 contractors Xe provides, 744 are U.S. citizens.[3][4] At least 90 percent of the company's revenue comes from government contracts, of which two-thirds are no-bid contracts.[5] Xe provided security services in Iraq to the United States federal government, particularly the Department of State[1] on a contractual basis. They no longer have a presence in Iraq: the new Iraqi government made multiple attempts to expel them from their country,[6] and has denied their application for an operating license in January 2009.[7]

On February 13, 2009 the company announced that it will now operate under the name 'Xe' (pronounced 'zee'). In a memo sent to employees, President Gary Jackson wrote that the new name "reflects the change in company focus away from the business of providing private security." A spokesman for the company stated that it feels the Blackwater name is too closely associated with the company's work in Iraq.[8] Spokeswoman Anne Tyrrell said there was no meaning in the new name, which the company spent over a year to arrive at in an internal search.[9]

  • I guess its bad to be conservative, and Christian. What the hell is happening to this country. It was founded on a belif in God and now if your Christian its bad. Blackwater is a good group of guys. God Bless America!!!!

  • @JakeSEAL9 - I don't think that Christianity is the only one with a 'god'. The US was founded by people of varying beliefs and religions with an idea that any religion may be practiced or ignored. I get tired of people trying to say it is a christian country, this is why there is specifically laws written to separate church and state? doesn't sound very 'christian' to me... Its not bad to be christian, or muslim, or jew. Just different. None of those religions should directly effect policy.

  • I like watching old videos back in the bush administration, and how wrong they all are lol.

Funny to see pointless videos get their stupid wings down the line.

  • @MacEwanMouse - yeah things have certainly got better! TSA molestation scans, more torture, renewed patriot act, additional wars on top of the old wars, gas prices up, job market up for mcdonalds employees but down for anyone who is looking for careers... Certainly everything is much better now that the skin color has changed :)

  • I understand the threat these mercs pose to our country if allowed to patrol our streets. It is all well documented in Roman history what happens when private armies are allowed to fight for governments for money! How do we know that this is not a CIA/U.S.government front company to carry out assasinations and other war crimes so that America can deny, deny, deny? My platoon in Iraq was pinned down, and a squad of these guys saved our lives, what can I say? They were incredible.

  • New Orleans and Pakistan have one thing in common Blackwater.

And the result was....more American citizens being killed! Nice job, Dubya.

  • @kpgps

They may have saved YOUR life, but i'm pretty sure those 17 civilians (including women and children) those mercs slaughtered back in '07 would say that they were less than incredible. Not that they can say anything, considering their kind of...dead

  • @brainphreak No America was founded by Christian men. I have no problem with the freedom of religion. In fact I support it whole heartedly and love the constitution. But it makes me a little mad when Mr. Prince is made fun of for being Christian. He runs a private company. He can make it a Christian company if hed like.

  • @brainphreak Spend less time being angry at things the way they are, and more time just enjoying life like the people who say, oh I'll just spend 5 more minutes in a scan and be on my way. Bet you think 9/11 was an inside job lol.

  • @brainphreak hey, if you can afford it, why not privatize security? it is really just private security just with military weapons and training. they don't only role in the middle east where the army can't go, they also do security for companies, they train armies, and do jobs outside of the middle east. and in the end they won't fight each other, they will either form into diff companies, or choose a certain nation as a client. only idiots would end up fighting each other for cash & Xe are not.
