Rachel Alexandra, 2009 Horse of the Year, gave birth yesterday to a 125 pound colt by 2007 and 2008 Horse of the Year, Curlin who stands at Lane's End Farm.

The bay colt was born at 2:40 pm on Stonestreet Farm near Lexington, Kentucky. He took his first steps an hour and an half later. Emblazoned with a white star, the alert colt bears a striking resemblance to his mother. Stonestreet Farm manager Gary Megibben reports all is well with both mare and foal and that, "Rachel is a natural mother, and took to the colt immediately." This is 2009 HOY winner Rachel Alexandra's first foal and is to be bred to Bernardini in 2012. I DO NOT OWN THIS VIDEO! ALL RIGHTS GO TO STONESTREET FARM!

  • I like Alexander the Great, also!

  • I'm glad the Lotta Kim in Rachel didn't come out after she birthed her colt. I was kinda worried if she would inherit that trait from her Dam after the colt was born.
