I remember MFM staff demanding higher wages and when MFM told them they couldn't afford it, the staff all went on strike.
MFM then promptly went out of business so instead of everyone getting the raise they wanted, they all lost their jobs.

It's a terrible shame that all the stores that were around, and that I remember best as a kid, are long gone now. Loeb IGA, Miracle Food Mart, A&P, Dominion, Woolco, Knob Hill Farms, etc....all defunct. Now we're stuck with these overpriced places. Zehrs, Sobeys, Wal-Mart, etc. I miss the good old days of being a kid in the 80's.

a jew selling pork...then miracle food mart went out of bussiness...how ironic.

@MattJFisher Oh, that last I mentioned was in Orleans. Forgive me. :)

@kidfortoday R.I.P. to Al Waxman and to Woolco.
And some other IGA stores in Ontario and Western Canada are now becoming Sobeys stores. That includes, here in Ottawa, the one in Barrhaven, and they've opened a Sobeys on Innes Road at Trim Road.

Besides K of K, he was the chief of detectives in "Cagney and Lacey."
Shortly after his performance aired on ABC in the 2002(?) biopic on Judy Garland, he passed into eternity. RIP.

man, i havent thought about miracale food marts in years! i know it wasnt a grocery store, but who remembers the woolco stores? alan thicke was the spokesman for that store for years and years. i once thought that IGA would never go the way of woolco and beckers stores, but now you see them becoming foodland stores more and more. such a sad thing. :( we're slowly losing more and more canadian institutions!
Speaking of defunct supermarket chains, does anyone have any old Knob Hill Farms commercials? I'd sure love to see one of those again.
