  • suffering from the same problem...i never had dandruff until i went natural...with my braids i have to wash my hair every three days or so or else it will get very unbearable...when I wear it loose i wash every two weeks

  • @t4u09 Well the only thing I can say is research research. At the moment, I am still struggling to figure out what my hair triggers are and what works for me. When I have my hair in braids, something that has seemed to work for me is to just wet my scalp (do it in the shower or just using a spray bottle) every few days. Seems to control the itchiness a bit.

  • @Sharma - Thanks I've been using natural oils such as coconut and tea tree oil to try and keep the itching down especially as my its gotten worse over winter.

  • You should try a henna treatment. It will do wonders for your scalp!

  • Thanks!

  • actually if ur transitioning nuetrogena isnt all that good it actually strips your hair of all its oils which can makes seborheic dermatitis worse. I struggled with it. For braids I'd say teatree oil and aloevera gel oil or try qhemetbiologics teatree&grapeseed pomade. I can't really hold braids longer than a month without frequent washing but shampoo bars with teatree or lavender as an ingredient seem to work great for me. Hope I helped

  • Thanks for the advise, I will certainly try it! Just washed my hair 2 days ago and already itching like crazy!

  • I'm not wearing braids, but have just started transitioning myself. I'm wearing a wig and have corn rows underneath and yes I suffer sebhorric dermatitis. Personally Ive been using the shampoo aphosyl which is said to be really good which I would also recommend you try. It contains coal tar and other ingredients said to treat this condition. Tea tree oil and lavender oil based hair products are also very good. Also moisturise the scalp especially if in cold climates.

  • hey, coconut oil is AMAZING! for your scalp it clears up my scalp for a long time, just rub it into your scalp and wash it off after 30 mins! trust meee :) !!
