@William7263 sounds to me like you need some new glow plugs and a relay now if the relay is like $80 bucks then get a starter relay there normally cheaper and they do the same thing

my 2002 f350 7.3 power stroke, starts and runs for 30 seconds then shuts down. after many attempts it will start during cold weather. whats my problem?
-
id change your cps, your tachs not jumping like its supposed to when cranking.
-
@sambone18 at least they are easy to change and only 10 bucks each. 80 bucks and 2 hours work and your on your way.

@speedjunkie66 Ok, BONEHEAD... All a glowplug does is heat the air inside the cylinder to help ease the starting of a diesel in cold weather. If you have a good battery you can just crank on the starter for 10 to 12 seconds at a time and use the compression the motor creates to heat the air. The new 6.7 liter Cummins in the Dodges have no glow plugs and they start up just fine. So, Bonehead, maybe you need to go back to "TECH SCHOOL" and maybe pay attention this time.

hey guys i know of a past friend that had a diesel with a patented quick start feature the engine had only one glow plug in it was a straight six detroit cummings
ands if ya waited longer than a quick count to 5 ya blew up the motor cranking it
i know because ive fired it up numerous times myself and drove the vehicle. can reach me at gbennett@stny.rr.com

My 95 f 350 had the same smoke bad gps and relay were teh culprit woudl nto start in codl so repalced the relay and glow plugs now it will start nwo smoke and no plu gin needed! until it gets below 20~!
My dad just did this on my 95, it had a bolt broke in it an had been arcing across to fir the plugs. well he changed it, an now my blinkers are REALLY slow, lights seem a bit dimmer than normal an volt gauge is barely reading at the "N" for normal. Any idea's? All worked fine till he replaced the relay, could he have hooked it up wrong?

Sounds like your alternator is bad. I had the same problem and I took it in and they said it was the alternator. I also lost my starter and batteries right after I changed it also.

Yeah. it was the glow plug relay. but now it is doing the same thing again because the glow plugs are shot.
