  • were you flying to -los ang.

  • Nope, this flight was to ATL. After that we were heading to "The most beautiful city in the world"... SFO

  • So you stopped in Bangor for a re-fuel? Was this a scheduled stop? 767-300 aren't common in small airports like Bangor.

  • Well, for that particular day, it was scheduled. We had to take off on RWY 25 in STR and due to a hill, there are payload restrictions in effect; combined with strong headwinds TATL, we had to refuel.

  • @UA901 I have heard of this happening on this flight more than once. My question is why wait and fly to Bagor. Why not stop in FRA,CDG,MUC,AMS,LGW,LHR where delta as operates flights non-stop to the USA? That way T/O from STR level off, then his FRA fill up and then to ATL.

  • Well, I'd say that all these a/p are pretty tight on slots, so an addtl. flight just to refuel might be difficult - remember, the decision that you have to go over the weight restricted rwy is adhoc (more/less), so it can't be woven into the flight planning in advance.

  • Looks like you landed BGR from the west, as I didn't see the city or Penobscot River off the starboard side. When you come in from the west you come from out in the 'burbs, such as they are (mostly forest and farms). BGR is a nice airport and city, and Maine is a great state to boot!

  • @Keagkid Bangor has lots of international flights refuel it's one of the airport's specialty.

Delta and US Air have passenger service flights and the military uses it quite a bit.

  • @bryanb16th true they could and should but don't care or don't fill up in Stuttgart at all.

  • Bangor is the first gateway from the US. It is used for refueling and unruley pax coming across the drink. The runway is 11,500 X 200 and is a major KC-135R refueling station for everthing going over the Atlantic. Runway remains open in major stowstorms on the eastern seaboard. When everthing is closed and the flights are diverted to BGR. This is a major Delta alternate along with other airlines....

  • @Keagkid Well, planes like this aren't very common at KBGR, but I wouldn't exactly say it's a small airport, it has a 2mile+ runway and has landed some pretty big planes like AN-225 and the like, and has KC-135's going to and from every day. As far as travel destination, it's pretty small. But as far as size and range of planes it can cater to, it's pretty large.

  • also if only takes 26mins to completly fill a 767, from the time the fuel truck arrives, i could FRA or MUC (who at this time has two flights a day) could have taken 20+ mins and topped her off.

  • True. Understandable. But you a/c don't have to have a slot to refuel or in this case top off the tanks. this a/c could have been filled on the ramp.

  • hey i live 1 hr from bangor
