Candlelight Vigil for Safe RN Staffing at Terence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center New York City
==
Community members and the registered nurses of Terence Cardinal Cooke Medical Center (TCC) held a candlelight vigil on Wednesday, Nov. 5, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. to protest proposed cuts in nursing positions. The vigil was held outside the hospital on Central Park East (Fifth Avenue) between 105th and 106th Streets.
The facility is planning on eliminating numerous RN positions, leaving very fragile patients with fewer skilled nurses to care for them. TCC plans to replace the RNs with LPNs, who by law cannot assess the condition of patients, develop and adjust nursing care plans, administer certain treatments and medications, or function independently of an RN or other authorized professional.
Many TCC patients require the level of care that only a registered nurse can provide, Christina Terranova, RN, New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) nursing representative We are concerned that this could be the first phase in a long-term plan to replace RNs with LPNs, to the danger of the patients we serve.
TCC is a long-term care facility treating patients with Alzheimers, Parkinsons Disease, AIDS, and Huntingtons Disease; and also children and adults with severe developmental disabilities. TCC is a member of the Catholic Health Care System.

God forgives, but the residents will not, when they found out you took away their "friends", whom they can trust and talk to of how they feel, mostly on how they make them feel better. Their families are away or none. The RNs are their families. Why do you want to take them away? So they can be lonely, miserable and feel invaluable? The RNs are there also as a family aside from their expertise. TCCHCC is their home. The RNs and other staff is their family. What does FAMILY mean to you?

Christina you have done a very good job with this vidoes- made me cry watching them, I know times are hard but it hurts when we have worked so much and gone out of our way to be our patients advocate, their eyes and ears and only to be treated like disposable garbage by those who don't even know how it is to be a nurse. They can't even negotiate in "good faith".
Be STRONG TCC RNs, GOD IS WITH US ALL THE WAY !!!!!
