How to use the Seoul subway system (수도권 전철). I made this tutorial when had to attend a training course in Sinchon about a new class I'm teaching. Please leave a comment if you have questions and be sure to also watch "The Seoul Subway Simplified" by michaelarnold13. Music by Rachel Palmer.

  • How does the "system" know how much to charge you? I guess I'm just confused because the only subways I've ever ridden were a one-time charge. For example, in Mexico City, once you're on the subway, you could hypothetically take it to every stop having only paid once. Do you have to swipe your card each time you change lines so that it can accurately track your journey and charge you appropriately?

  • @PhenixJoe Great question! There's a standard, one-time charge here as well, however, the system deducts additional money for longer trips by placing an extra fee on your card when you're EXITING the gates and need to scan it again. Destinations about an hour or more away generally result in another 100-200 won ($0.10- 0.20) charge at the end. But there's no scanning during transfers, so the system is really simple to use. Thanks for watching!

  • Wow this is like hands on guide on "how to travel in Seoul via subway"

  • @drsnowmon I'm happy you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching!

  • I just finished up a short teaching gig in Seoul at Duksung Women's University, and I was thrilled to see your video because you live near Mia, and my subway stop was Suyu. I loved Korea--l life changeing experience--so your video has me pining to return. I am middle aged, blond with a hearty mustache--and a man on the train at Dongdaemun told me I looked like Santa Claus! Thanks for helping me remember.
