  • Thanks, Doug and Barb. Took just over ten minutes to get it all realigned, and it makes all the difference. The grind is consistently, persistently more precise than without the bearing.

...but what do do with the leftover oblong washer? Keep it for posterity's sake?

  • @thebrianchase 3/8 worked for me too :o)

  • I just received my grinder and kit in the mail today. Aligning only took me ~10 minutes (*whew*). Now I wonder why I didn't get one sooner. Using a Hario Slim I could only steep FP maybe 3 minutes tops or it would over-extract. Lots of sifting got me 4 minutes, but I just finished an awesome cup that steeped for 6 minutes, no sifting, no road tar. Thanks!!

  • After using my OE-PFP for several months, I found that the bottom burr had worked itself a little bit loose on the shaft. Watching this video helped me to know how to disassemble it to try to fix it. Rather than simply retightening the nut, I noticed there was a fair amount of space between the burr and the shaft, so I shimmed it with some thin plastic before putting the nut on. Now there is absolutely no play of the burr on the shaft, and I'm looking forward to more great coffee!

  • Thanks for the OE Lower Bearing UPGRADE KIT and excellent video! The grinds look great and I'm brewing them right now! I used a 3/8 socket to remove the nut, the socket didn't go all the way in but far enough to grab the nut. Took about 15 minute to install and adjust it to my satisfaction. Thanks again!

  • Also, I love the fact that you're wearing a Tyvex suit in your workshop. Also, I tried putting the brass washer under the nut on the bottom of the burr. The outer diameter of the washer fits in the in-lay of the burr perfectly. Not sure how it supports it structurally better or for worse but it seemed to make sense to me so I went with it. I don't have any ceramic on ceramic rub and it's quiet even down at a pretty fine grind. Thanks a ton!

  • Thanks for selling me the mod by itself a few months ago. It's working great!

  • French press coffee while traveling or camping has not been an option until now if I can do this on my Skerton grinder. Thanks for the video :D
