  • It was only Nth American humor ..not insults..Look at Joan Rivers, Don Rickles etc they are institutions and thier acts are usually about insulting people but they laugh at themselves too..and no malice is meant...I always liked Hughie Green--he was larger than life--RIP pal..!!

  • @stevierob Nice cliché cunt face if you disagree with another you are right they are mental - therefore you can close your fucking mind.

Yes I will trot along to my GP on monday because some anonymous wanker on youtube told me I was mental because they took offence over a comment I left about Hughie Green.

Only someone with some form of God complex would believe I would question my sanity because they told me to do so. Sweetcheeks U make Hughie look like a pissin' saint Show this to your GP!

  • @MsMrReason Please see a doctor, you're mentally ill.

  • @6PBP6 I love Hughie Green and I stood up to be counted. Love you Hughie.

  • @6PBP6 I have never disliked Hughie Green, because he is a typical media man like Alan Partridge.

I love the part where he says " Why don't you shave" That is so Alan Partridge. I love how he snaps from showman with the crowd to the real bastard that he was with the reporters.

Reporters deserve it so I do not care, but Hughie use the press himself as they suppressed the news that he was Paula Yate's dad until after he die.

He was a bastard, but an obvious one

  • Run this through your head with the voice of Steve Coogan instead of Hughie Green and it could be a script straight from "I'm Alan Partridge" - try it? See what I mean??

  • It would appear that Green was well established in megalomania during the final years of Opportunity Knocks, which he used to express his own views and admirations - vide bringing on military bands and hosting a show from a nuclear submarine. The sadness of this excerpt is considerable, in that Green was obviously quite out of touch with reality, but at the end of the day Radio Trent had to cover its back by putting the way he had insulted its reporter in the public domain.

  • it was the journalist (as always) that was pushing for an insult... can't entirely blame Green for that.

  • It surprises me, just how many people (commenting here) knew Hughie Green, personally. They must be pretty ancient, by now. (Or could it be that they, like me, have no actual knowledge of the man at all, and have formed an opinion based on what others have said in the long distant past?)
