@markimark03 The announcer is Jenny Ogwen (then working for HTV Wales) who speaks Welsh as her native language. I think she still presents on S4C from time to time.

@rosebankross They're Welsh - she's talking about Pontllanfraith at the beginning. (Although it's a bit misleading because the start of Take the High Road has a Scottish TV 'ident' in front of it)

Brilliant theme tune. I always used to hear it constantly while waiting for the kids' TV to start when I was 8! Before long I ended up watching the soap itself, for a bit...

the presenter does an excellent pronouncing those place names in the introduction... television presenters and newsreaders don't seem to be bothered any more on pronouncing non english-sounding names these days!
