"Ballad of the Old Oak Tree" is one of the first songs I wrote for "Little Kim & the Alley Apple 3". It's a song about a failed marriage and a very unhappy ending.
"Ballad of the Old Oak Tree" was first recorded at the "Closed Session Studio" in Roeselare on November 23, 2009. Actually, it's just a one take we recorded at the end of the session, already very late at night ... We just wanted to give it a go as the last song of the day, and it worked out just fine ... If you listen closely you'll hear Kim's voice getting tired and breaking up a bit. But in the end it really fitted the song well!
The music gear used in this session consisted of a Gibson L7 with a Dearmond floating pickup through a 1951 Gibson BR 6 amp ... a Gibson L49 archtop (I don't remember the microphone we used for this one - I think it was something German) ... and a 1848 French Double Bass 'Charotte Millot Mirecourt" going through a nice old RCA 44 microphone. We just love that one!! I really don't remember which microphone was used for the vocals ...
