I had not considered using that hole in the spindle casting to hold my indicator. Thanks!

Tubalcain,
A little tip for you.
Instead of moving the camera closer to an object that is hard to see or detailed, use the zoom on the camera, this will allow more light in and the camera will focus better.
Keep up the good work and I look forward to learning more from your videos.
Thank you
Mark

Could you do a video talking about setting the correct spindle speed for various materials and tools? Thanks!

Thanks for posting this--it has been a long time since my machining classes and I appreciate the refresher!
Very well done instructional video. The only thing I do differently is I indicate on the BACK of the parallel for the utmost in accuracy, that way I reduce the possibility of error. I know, they're called PARALLELS for a reason, I just prefer using the surface that is against the rigid jaw of the vise. Probably sounds a little ocd, but that can be a good thing in a machinist. Also, the Interapid indicator is my favorite because of the versatility of it's hinged post.

I purchased a small 5500 Sherline mill package, after assembling the mill i indicated the head in and all went well and has been ever since, but viewing this video (which is great, by the way...much better then my high school metal shop class, hear that Mr. Ellis?!...lol) I am left to ask, should you always indicate the head before every project? I haven't made it a habit...yet, but the piececs I've machined in my mill seem to fit well?

Thanks--I'm an old shop teacher myself. No need to indicate before each use. Only after you have used it at another angle, or think you have knocked it out of alignment.
