Here's an interesting little thing about Super Mario Bros 3.

Many of the map icons are actually inaccessible junk levels, for whatever reason. In world 2 they are pyramids and oasises. I access them using a code to walk anywhere on the map.

Many of them will just freeze the game, some will lead to complete broken levels, on occasion, you'll get an extra toad house.

In this case, you get taken to the world map screen, interpreted as a platforming level. It's a glitchy mess that can kill you, and freeze the game with many of it's hidden doorways.

However, if you play a level before loading the glitched level, and enter a door, it'll take you to a glitchy part of the last level, as demonstrated!

Glitches sure are fun and interesting huh.

  • Level loader references to an address in memory that is purely garbage or memory for data in some other part of the game.

  • @mightymax1983 Yeah, some of the inaccessible levels load complete crap.

This one in particular accesses the memory holding World 2 or part of the previous level loaded.

  • I'm thinking about doing a YT/internet show about these interesting glitch worlds.

  • @churlyryan You wouldn't get very far with that, a lot of them are just totally empty levels or lead to a bonus game.

This was probably the most interesting example because of the world map being interpreted as a stage, and leading to a remnant of the previously loaded level.

So really you are restricted to anything in World 2, I think. But feel free to investigate.

  • " I access them using a code to walk anywhere on the map."

If you use a code, then it is not a glitch.

  • @shadowxundone I suppose not, but what I'm referring to is that these parts of the map, though only accessible through use of a cheatcode, function as a glitched area.

  • those mushrooms are really starting to affect Mario

  • Very interesting, i'm impressed...

  • It doesn't matter if theres a code. Maybe there is a way to access it normally, this is just to show it's there. If it does something it's not supposed to and there isn't a code making it do THAT then yes, it is a glitch.

  • 2:30 the game doesn't like you pressing that button again so it yells at you.
